The Jazzmaster pickup is remarkably unique in its overall design and tonality, which is why we love it so much. We began to wonder, what would it sound like inside a different instrument such as a semi-hollow. Many other types of pickups have found their home inside other instruments, so why not the Jazzmaster pickup?
This was the beginning of the Bunting Willow JM! We contacted our friends in Israel and asked them if they would be interested in collaborating on a semi-hollow Willow that was voiced with our Lollar Black Bobbin® Jazzmaster pickups. Thankfully they were willing, and the results turned out to be phenomenal!
The semi-hollow Willow is constructed from the highest quality Spruce and Mahogany, giving you a remarkably resonant and lively guitar. The build quality of the guitar paired with the voice of our Black Bobbin® pickups gives this instrument a remarkable range of overtones and sonic options that would be hard to find anywhere else.
We are offering these Willow JMs on a pre-order basis right now, with a lead time of 6-8 months. It takes a while to make great things... The Willow is a short scale, single cutaway, semi-hollow electric guitar with some unique features that separate it from its ancestors.
The first feature we knew we were going for is the solid Spruce top – the traditional choice for acoustic guitar. The choice of tonewoods for this model comes from the same recipe: Genuine Mahogany core, Spruce Top and Ebony Fingerboard.
The body’s structure is designed to have great acoustic properties while still retaining the boldness and functionality of an electric. We plane down the solid top and back to 3mm, thus allowing them to vibrate much more than traditional laminated tops. The result is a guitar with an acoustic flavor and a crisp hollow sound, bigger than its body size. Play it unplugged and you immediately feel and hear the difference – it simply rings and sings! The “no F-holes” design minimizes the feedback and provides a deeper and more focused hollow sound.
The Willow features our original Bunting designed tailpiece and bridge, along with a Brass compensated saddle. The Brass saddle gives a unique ring and twang for this style of guitar and provides beautiful long sustain.
